Austria has one of the highest cancer healthcare standards worldwide. Novartis Oncology Austria would like to help to maintain and improve these standards and relieve the burden of cancer for the greatest number of patients.

Novartis Oncology Austria has grown significantly over the last few years and today we have strong capabilities in Medical Affairs, Marketing and Sales.

The medical affairs department is divided into the Hematology group (Glivec^®, Tasigna^® and Exjade^®) which deals with illnesses of the blood, the Solid Tumors & Rare Disease group (Zometa^®, Sandostatin/LAR^®, Navoban^®, Aredia^® and Desferal^®) and the Femara^® Franchise (Femara^® and Cadioxane^®). All groups specialize in medical studies and in supporting medical staff and patients throughout these studies including the provision of scientific information and advice.

We also work together with various Austrian patient groups in order to have a clearer picture of their concerns and support them with information and advice.

Key aspects of activity:

• Providing family-friendly therapies is one of our most important goals. For this reason we work to provide forms of therapy that make it possible for patients to maintain their quality of life and remain in familiar surroundings and with family. Additionally, we support physicians across many therapeutic areas with training and scientific events.
• For years, Novartis Oncology has supported patient advocacy and support groups to increase awareness among women of the necessity to have regular, preventive checkups and with information on the latest cancer breakthroughs. We focus not only on providing patients with innovative products to reduce the burden of cancer, but also to support prevention of the disease.
• The greatest patient need often exists for rare diseases. Research and Development of new compounds is crucial to improve the lives of patients with such conditions. For this reason we support the efforts of university hospitals and physicians whenever possible.

Novartis Oncology Österreich wächst stark und umfasst heute ein Team von rund 40 Mitarbeitern mit Aufgabenschwerpunkten Medizin, Marketing und Sales.

Alle Teams sind auf medizinische Studien spezialisiert und unterstützen Ärzte und Patienten während der Studien mit wissenschaftliche Informationen und Beratung.

Wir arbeiten auch mit den verschiedensten österreichischen Selbsthilfegruppen zusammen, um ein klareres Bild von den Bedürfnissen der Patienten zu bekommen, und unterstützen diese mit Informationen und Beratung.

Aktuelle Projekt-Schwerpunkte:

• "Familienfreundliche“ Therapie mildert die Belastung einer Krebserkrankung – deshalb engagieren wir uns dafür, ambulante Behandlungsformen im Familienumfeld des Patienten möglich zu machen und unterstützen niedergelassene Ärzte mit Informationsveranstaltungen dazu.
• www.pinkribbon.at - wir setzen ein Zeichen gegen Brustkrebs und unterstützen die Pink Ribbon Tour in Österreich. Auf die Wichtigkeit der Vorsorge hinzuweisen, ist uns ebenso ein Anliegen, wie Frauen im Kampf gegen Brustkrebs mit innovativen Medikamenten zu helfen.
• Umfassende Dokumentation klinischer Daten ist bei seltenen Krankheiten besonders wichtig. Die Erforschung und Entwicklung neuer Wirkstoffe ermöglicht eine Verbesserung der Lebensqualität von Patienten mit solchen Krankheiten. Aus diesem Grund unterstützen wir Universitätskliniken und Ärzte besonders auf diesem Gebiet.
