Novartis Oncology purchased soapstone bowls through SERRV International. The order consists of 7,500 handcrafted bowls. The Field Visit assignment aims to assess the progress of the order. This Field Report summarizes the results of the visit, as well as discussions with group members.

Introduction to the Community

NYABIGENA VILLAGE

The Kisii, or Abagusii people of Kenya , live in western Kenya , 400 or so kilometres from Nairobi and 50 kilometres East of Lake Victoria. It is one of Kenya 's most fertile areas enjoying lots of rain. The Kisii Highlands, rise to 2000 metres and consist of green hills and valleys that combine to provide a beautiful scenic effect.

PRUNING BANANAS

They provide an ideal environment for beverages such as tea and coffee, fruits like bananas, grains and many vegetables tilled with diligence by one of East Africa's most entrepreneurial and hard working communities.
