Wen Huei Fan

Wen Huei Fan (Fan to all who know him), lives in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Fan is a married, 35-year-old digital artist. Today, more than three years after starting treatment for his chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), Fan is one of the most active and dedicated members of the local Malaysian CML patient support group. His motto has become "Life is beautiful."

Fan continues to thrive as a CML patient in full remission, experiencing first-hand the evolution of the patient access programs that help provide Novartis Oncology CML medication to tens of thousands of patients worldwide. As of September 2007, the Malaysian Ministry of Health and Novartis Oncology collaborated to implement a Shared Contribution Model for many patients. The government is responsible for several months per year of treatment, and Novartis Oncology contributes the remaining months supply of medicine to the Malaysian government at no cost to the patient.

Fan is among hundreds of patients who have successfully transitioned from GIPAP™ and are now obtaining treatment through the Shared Contribution Model. The arrangement Novartis Oncology has with the Malaysian Ministry of Health enhances the government's role in contributing to the healthcare needs of its citizens and allows Novartis Oncology to extend access to other patients around the world.
