Raising the volume on Rare Disease Day around greater awareness.
Feb 24, 2016
Living with cancer can be a great burden, regardless of whether it is a type that affects millions of people globally or only a small fraction of the population, the latter of which falls under the category of a rare disease. Rare diseases are so defined because they affect a small number of people, the number of which varies by country or region around the world. For example, in the EU a rare disease may affect as many as 245,000 people; in the US, fewer than 200,000.
Despite the small populations of people living with rare diseases, we believe there’s strength in numbers. That’s why we at Novartis Oncology are getting loud on Rare Disease Day, which happens to also be on February 29, the rarest day of the year.
We have a deep heritage in paving the path forward for rare diseases and are committed to finding new treatments and improving outcomes for people living with rare diseases. Beyond just today, we work to improve the understanding of many rare diseases around the clock. Through our work across more than 25 rare diseases, including tuberous sclerosis complex, neuroendocrine tumors and Cushing’s disease, we recognize the challenges that people living with rare diseases face and are committed to advancing care.
For every person living with a rare disease, the impact is significant to them and their loved ones.
We want you to get loud with us and rare disease communities around the world to ensure they are heard loud and clear. Here’s two ways:
Learn more about these specific diseases by going to the Rare Diseases video playlist on YouTube and spread awareness by posting videos about these diseases on your social media tagging #GetLoud and #RareDiseaseDay
Crank up the literal volume by tuning in to the “Get Loud” song playlist
